Meet Mr. Nick Gill
October 1, 2014
If one Googles Nick Gill an article from Pipeline Soccer Club shows up. The adjectives in the article describe him as knowledgeable, committed, dedicated, enthusiastic, and passionate. These words have come from students Mr. Gill has coached and trained over the years, from schools such as Calvert Hall, McDonough, and Friends School of Baltimore. And now Mr. Gill is bringing all of these qualities to Mercy as the new Athletic Director.
By just walking past Mr. Gill’s office one can already see and feel his impact on the Mercy community. His office is very inviting, and there are always Mercy girls coming in and out throughout the day. While sitting down with Mr. Gill he talked about his take on the Mercy community and his journey leading up to having an office full of Mercy girls: “The staff is welcoming, and the kids are energetic,” he said energetically.
Mr. Gill played sports growing up and this continued into his high school career. As a student at Calvert Hall he played soccer, basketball, and baseball but began to focus more on soccer around his sophomore year of high school. While at Calvert Hall, Mr. Gill was the captain of the 2002 Varsity Soccer Team, the first team in MIAA history to go undefeated and untied in the “A” conference. After high school Mr. Gill went to Towson University and majored in history. Mr. Gill later returned Calvert Hall in 2002 as the boys’ varsity assistant soccer coach and was there until 2009. The following summer Mr. Gill coached the U-23 Maryland Bays Men’s team to the national championship game. In the fall of 2010 Mr. Gill became the head coach at Friends School, Baltimore, for indoor and outdoor soccer. After coaching he stepped up as the athletic director here at Mercy.
His plans for the school year include increasing school spirit and attendance at games tremendously. He also wants to “bring the win back home to Mercy” at the big Mercy vs. IND game, one of Mercy’s biggest traditions. By just having a conversion with Mr. Gill it is clear that the words knowledgeable, committed, dedicated, enthusiastic, and passionate describe him very well.
