On February 22 the Social Justice Society held a poetry slam after school. Though poetry slam is a competition using elimination rounds for the reading or performance of poetry, Mercy held it as a gathering where students and faculty could recite their own chosen poetry. The following are responses to the poetry slam.

Meg Kennedy:

“There was true talent in every poem and creativity was in the air. I can’t  wait for this to grow and expand into something great for student body.”

Illuminating.

Ms.Yanson:

“We need to do this MORE OFTEN! The power of the spoken word can energize people to say what is deep within, in the most effective way. Its both ancient and very, very modern. Styles can change, but truth doesn’t. Speak it out!”

Truth

Kennedy Gravette:

“I felt really moved by everyone’s poetry. I was really inspired by Ariyanna’s poem and Kennedy Robinsons poem as well.”

Inspirational.

Sister Helen:

“Very impressive especially, poems of the younger students! Surprised how good they were”

Surprising.

Many have said they would like to do another poetry slam.
